Hi,
I have spilled some acidic ( I think) cleaner material on some travatine tiles. It has etched the gloss finish, is there any way to restore the finish?
Many thanks
David |

Hi David,
If the tiles were sealed then you could try putting some more sealant down , it must be the same one that was used originally or it wont be compatable,If the tiles are Polished then you won't be able to do it yourself you will need to get a local stone polisher in to do it for you. |

Hi tile doctor,
We have just had tiles fitted in our new kitchen they look lovely but i cant clean them they have a rough finish and if i mop or rub with a cloth it just leaves bits of mop all over the floor I have tried scrubbing but I cant wipe the water off i have to dab it please help.

Hi Margaret,
These tiles sound ike the slip resistant variety, as such they have a rough texture, mops will shred with these tiles, suggest you invest in a Vac machine and scrub the tiles with a deck brush . |

We have a porcelain tile in a walkway to the house. The guy at home-depot told us that was the perfect slip-resistant tile, we explained it was close to the pool and a high traffic area, still his suggestion. NOW that its installed and very beautiful its TERRIBLY SLIPPERY...we've all fallen at least once and someone is going to get hurt. We tried polyurethane and sand but it didn’t attach to the tile...what can we do to make it not so slippery? |

Hi Amber,
Thanks for the e-mail, however we are based in England and although I do know you can get a no-slip tile treatment in the UK I'm not sure where you can get it in your country. |

Hello,
I'm just about to replace a number of tiles in our Victorian tiled floor and also re-grout in several places. Do you recommend a grout for (sometimes very) narrow gaps (e.g. sand free or similar)? |
| Tile Doctor |
Hi Stephen,
We don't sell grout however the best one I have come across of late is made by Mapei called Ultracolour, its flexible, waterproof and stain resistant. |

I have a matte finish porcelain tile floor x 2yrs. I am having a problem cleaning this although I use a floor scrubber as there is always a haze and marks left when I look at it from certain angles.I do not use any cleaning fluid except occassionally flash. Please could you recommend a concentrated deep cleaner to thoroughly clean the tiles? |
| Tile Doctor |
Hi Andrea,
The problem may be that you have a Porcelain which needs a scrubber drier machine to clean the floor and dry it at the same time, these type of tiles are mainly sold for industrial premises and are cleaned with the scrubber drier.
We have a cleaner called Pro-clean which is the strongest cleaner we have, but to be honest with you, Porcelain tiles should require very little heavy Cleaning |

Hi
6 months ago we had tumbled marble tiles laid in the hall. The tiler advised us to use 3 coats of slate sealant, which we did. I am have trouble keeping the floor clean - dirt seems to really stick to the floor, I spend a lot on time cleaning it on my hands and knees with a scourer! We were thinking of stripping off the sealant and resealing. What do you advise?
|
| Tile Doctor |
Hi Sarah,
It sounds as if the sealer hadn’t dried between coats and it has gone sticky; the only solution is to remove the sealer with Remove and Go and then reseal with Seal and Go |

we have recently laid a light coloured porcelain or ceramic tiled floor in the kitchen.
Unfortunately the grey grout has washed onto the tile surface and no amount of elbow grease can remove it; in fact the more we clean, the more the grout gets onto the surface.
Any ideas - so far soap and flash do not work on the tiles. |

Hi John,
Common problem this, I suggest you try our Grout Clean up product avaialble via the website. |

smoke damage to grout in between floor tiles. floor tiles are a two tone pinkish coloured spanish ceramic & the grout has discoloured. what can I use to brighten it up? |
| Tile Doctor |
Hi Tony,
Thanks for the e-mail, The best bet is to use the grout Colourant that we sell on the web site, get the whole kit and not just the colour on its own as you will need the pre-treater in the kit. |

I have a polished grey slate shelf which was one of a batch of four. It has been stored for some months in bubblewrap which has left a whitish pattern of circles behind. What would you recommend to remove these and could you suggest a routine cleaning agent for regular use afterwards?
Thanks for your help |
| Tile Doctor |
Hi Alan,
That’s a shame, as the only way you can get the marks out with a polished stone is to re-strip it and polish it up again, you will not be able to do this yourself as it is a skilled job, you would need to get somebody out of your local yellow pages to do it for you. For routine cleaning of Stone we recommend the Concentrated Tile Cleaner product we sell on the web site, its neutral formula is specially designed for stone surfaces. |

I have a client who has ceramic tiles she applied a floor gloss from Home base on these tiles and it has left a brown residue. She has tried on a section with Ammonia!!! and a wire brush and had some effect but has asked for my assistance to rectify the whole problem. Whats the best solution to this problem?? |
| Tile Doctor |
Hi Dean,
Ceramic tiles aren’t porous and therefore won’t accept a sealer which is probably the root cause of the problem, to remove the sealer use Remove and Go we sell it on the website |

Hi Tile Doctor After putting new tiles on our bathroom wall there is still some grout on the tiles themselves. We are scrubbing and scrubbing with warm water and nylon scourers but progress seems to be very slow. Are there any other products/materials we could use to speed up our progress? |
| Tile Doctor |
Hi Mark, You need Concentrated Acid cleaner for this problem, it contains Phosphoric acid and its ideal for removing excess grout haze, go to www.tiledoctor.co.uk/AcidCleaner.html for more details. |
